The coastal area of Tamil Nadu is suffering of heavy over exploitation of groundwater due to lack of awareness of the population on the limited resources, but also because of a lack of management of the resources. Through time, this has created a heavy depletion of the groundwater and consequently a severe risk of seawater intrusion, which cannot be turned back once occurring during normal human time scale. Aurovillle Water Harvest works on a series of projects with the objective to recharge ground water through artificial methods and allow for larger irrigation of lands from surface water flow.
