Natural resource management should take into account contextual variations, such as identifying drainage patterns of water bodies. The example of the Bangalore region shows how the landscape lends itself to the development of lakes to capture and store rainwater, however imposition of a defined greenbelt rather than a natural system has resulted in the decline of water bodies.
